to ICR2's paintkit. -- michael)
Before making any changes to a car, we suggest that you make a new car set instead of changing the original cars. Please follow the instructions below if you have not already done so.
Making your own cars set
1. From the C:\ICR2> prompt, (if your directory is on a different drive or directory substitute in the correct one) enter PAINTKIT MYCARS
The following will appear if it does not already exist:
DOS/4GW Professional Protected Mode Run-time Version 1.97 Copyright (c) Rational Systems, Inc. 1990-1994 Indycar II Paintkit for DOS v1.01 Testing Drive...okDirectory cars\mycars does not exist. Do you want me to create the directory (Yes/No)?
Press Y for yes and <enter>.
File cars\mycars\mycars.dat does not exit. Do you want me to create the file (Yes/No)?
Press Y for yes and <enter>.
The computer will spend some time making the file and then enter the paintkit with a car set for you to change as you wish.
You may wish to Export cars to edit them in other paint programs or to complete your changes at a later date without changing the current car set.
We will use the MYCARS car set made in the previous section. Feel free to substitute the name of your cars set if it differs from the one above.
1. From the C:\ICR2> prompt, enter PAINTKIT MYCARS.
2. You will now be in the ICR2 PAINTSHOP, click PAINT CARS.
3. Use the PREVIOUS CAR and NEXT CAR buttons to cycle through the cars to find the car you wish to export then the click the SELECT button. Once in the paint area click the EXPORT button. That car has now been saved in your C:\ICR2 directory as one of the .PCX files listed below:
IND95.PCX ALU16.PCX HOL18.PCX VIS17.PCX PEN08.PCX FIR20.PCX MAR01.PCX MAR02.PCX MIL09.PCX TAR04.PCX TAR12.PCX VAL05.PCX MAR15.PCX DUR11.PCX IND96.PCX PAN25.PCX LCI31.PCX BEN86.PCX OCE55.PCX VEN42.PCX SPI35.PCX ETE40.PCX RAB72.PCX SUN98.PCX DIL71.PCX HIS21.PCX TEM66.PCX VIS82.PCX CIT74.PCX POL69.PCX OKE33.PCX IND00.PCXNotice the car's number is the same as appears in the filename. Any car you wish to import back into the cars set must have one of these names.
4. If you wish to modify the car at this time, click the QUIT button and then EXIT now. If you wish to EXPORT another car proceed to step 6.
5. You may now load the PCX file into another paint program that supports the PCX file format that is used by ICR2 and make your changes there. CAUTION -- Do not use the PAINTBRUSH program that came with Windows or any other paint program that does not maintain the integrity of the PCX file exported by ICR2. You will not be able to run the PAINTKIT again after you have IMPORTED that car back into the PAINTKIT.
6. If you would like to EXPORT another car, click the QUIT button and then go back to PAINT CARS and repeat steps 1-4.
After you have edited the PCX file in another paint program or if you have downloaded a car from another source you will need to import them into the ICR2 PAINTKIT in order to use them in the game. Please follow the instructions below.
1. It is important that the file you wish to IMPORT has one of the names listed in the section called Exporting Cars. If it is the car you want to drive, it should be named IND95.PCX . If you are trying to IMPORT a car that you didn't paint but obtained from another source, you will need to rename that file to one of the names shown in the list in previous section; or if you wish to drive that car rename it IND95.PCX .
2. Make sure that the newly changed PCX file is saved in the C:\ICR2 directory.
3. Run PAINTKIT MYCARS
4. Click the PAINT CARS.
5. If you have named the car to be imported IND95.PCX, find the #95 car and click SELECT. If the car is to replace one of the other cars in the cars set then find the appropriate car and SELECT it.
6. Click the IMPORT button and the changes should appear on the car shown.
7. Unless there are more changes you wish to make to the car, you can SAVE the car and QUIT.
1. At the C:\ICR2 prompt, type ICR2.
2. At the MAIN MENU, goto DRIVER INFO.
3. Select CAR SETS. Now select the MYCARS car set, or the appropriate name if it differs.
4. Your newly painted car should appear as the PLAYER car or one of the OPPONENT cars if you changed on of those cars.
5. You can now race with your new CAR SET. ICR2 will run with the last CAR SET loaded.
